American Le Mans Series 2005-2008

2005

In 2005 the series was somewhat dominated by the Champion Audi team. Dyson was able to score a few wins in their Lola.

Mazda returned with a Courage pained up in colors that echoed their famous 1991 Le Mans win. However, the model shown below 'won' the LMP2 class by simply breaking down after everyone else... The LMP2 class would be transformed at the end of the year by the arrival of the Penske Porsche RS Spyder.

The Minichamps "Road Atlanta Winner" Audi is from the sprint race held there that year and NOT the Petit Le Mans race.

Maserati MC12

This car had a strange racing life. While it was compliant to FIA regulations, it was too wide and long for the A.C.O. and never raced at Le Mans. It ran in the ALMS as a 'guest' entry that was not eligable for championship points.

2007

Sebring...same as it ever was

One of the all-time great moments in sportscar history happened in the closing lap of the 12 hours. The Risi Ferrari and Flying Lizard Porsche battled fender-to-fender to one of the best finishes ever.

2008

The "High Water Mark"

The American Le Mans Series had an absolutely phenomonal year. There was excellent competition among the P1 & P2 cars for overall wins, and the GT2 class had an incredible array of cars and talent. I remember the glory days of IMSA, and this seemed to be very close. The main difference being less backmarkers.

I personally attended Lime Rock and Mosport.
